Details
In the Kutch region of Gujarat, Lippan Kaam is the tradition of women pressing clay into relief on the walls of their homes, geometric patterns set with fragments of mirror that catch the desert light. This large panel draws its palette from the blue architecture of Jodhpur: that particular shade of persian blue that reads differently at noon than it does at dusk.
Made in Kutch, Gujarat by artisans working in the Lippan Kaam tradition, this large handcrafted wall hanging features a vertical plant motif in persian blue and white clay relief, with mirrors embedded by hand. The scale makes it substantial, a proper wall piece, not an accent. The blue deepens where the clay is thicker and lightens at the edges of the pattern.
It asks for a wall with some height and not much else on it. The mirrors will hold the attention of anyone who passes close enough to see them move.
