Details
The original seal was pressed into clay somewhere in the Indus Valley 4,000 years ago, a Zebu bull, chest thrown forward, dewlap loose. Molela, in Rajasthan, has been making terracotta figures using the same clay-working methods ever since. This replica is made there, by those hands.
The Bull Seal is one of the most recovered artifacts of the Harappan civilization, found across sites stretching from modern Afghanistan to southern Gujarat. It depicts the Zebu or Bos Indicus bull, native to the subcontinent and still found grazing through parts of Gujarat and Sindh. This replica is made by Molela artists in Rajasthan using traditional terracotta methods, the same class of material that produced the original.
It comes framed and hangs flat. It is an object with a 4,000-year provenance and the tactile quality of something made by hand from earth. History, in a format that fits on your wall.
