Details
Lippan Kaam from Kutch, Gujarat is the art form that lives on the walls of bhungas, round mud homes, in the desert. Clay, mirrors, geometric patterns made by women who learned the technique without a single written instruction. This lime green mirror adaptation takes the wall of a Kutchi home and brings it inside.
Made in Kutch, Gujarat by artisans working in the Lippan Kaam tradition, this mirror frame is built from clay pressed into geometric relief by hand, with mirrors set into the surface before it dries. The lime green is unexpected and specific, not mint, not yellow-green, but a particular shade that photographs slightly brighter than it is in person.
A bathroom is the natural home for this piece. A bedroom wall. Anywhere you want color that earns its place by also being something. The clay frame and the mirror glass are two different textures at the same surface level; the eye travels between them.
